Kramnik – a name we’re sure to hear much more from over the next 12 months as the Spanish DJ/producer has dramatically crashed the hearts and minds of the true underground with his uncompromisingly dark productions and highly acclaimed LIVE sets.
Listening to his forthcoming EP on Triplefire Music, the attention to detail on production is immediately apparent as the opening track ‘Mongolium’ slowly builds into a wonderfully textured landscape above which floats the somewhat haunting yet enchanting vocal art of Mongolian throat singing. This superb production speaks to an emerging theme in his broader body of work – the use of attention grabbing samples. A traditional style called Hoomii, this is a unique type of singing where the vocalist produces two distinct tones at the same time. Accompanied by the equally moody and slightly tougher ‘Overtone’, this is an irresistible package of truly underground content – sparse, atmospheric and unpretentious. Kramnik is shaping up to be one to keep an ear to the ground for. This release demonstrate that we are witness to an artist who is setting new standards when it comes to dark, experimental EDM.
